Drop a file in.Get it back translated.
Percy the pelican picks up your Word file, PDF, slides or spreadsheet and flies it back in another language, in the same format you sent.
Don't upload confidential documents on the free tier. Why?
Drop, pick, done
No setup, no copy-paste. Drop the file in and Percy brings it back translated.
Drop your file
Word, PDF, PowerPoint, Excel, subtitles or text, up to 50 MB. Before anything is charged you see the page count and the credit cost.
Pick a language
Leave the source on Auto-detect or choose it, then pick one of 60 target languages.
Download, done
You get the same kind of file back, translated. Signed-in users also find it in History for 7 days.
Bring the files you work with
In Word, Excel and PowerPoint files only the words change; tables, styles and images stay in place. PDFs are rebuilt as closely as possible and come with an editable Word copy.
Same file. New language.
- Your layout, kept
We translate the text inside your Word, Excel and PowerPoint files and leave everything else alone. For PDFs you get a best-effort PDF plus a DOCX you can edit.
- 60 languages
From Spanish and German to Japanese, Arabic and Hindi. The source language is detected automatically.
- Progress you can see
A progress bar shows each page as it is translated. Long files keep running on our server if you close the tab, and signed-in users find them in History.
- Files deleted on a timer
Your upload is deleted as soon as the job finishes. The translation is kept 7 days if you are signed in, 24 hours if not, and you can delete it sooner.
- History when you sign in
Sign in with a magic link (no password) to re-download recent translations and translate up to 10 files at once.
Questions, answered
Will my file look the same?
For Word, Excel and PowerPoint, yes in nearly every case: we replace the words inside the file and leave styles, tables, images and charts untouched. Translations can run longer than the original, so check tight text boxes and narrow columns. Text formats like TXT, Markdown, CSV, JSON and subtitles keep their exact structure. PDFs are the hard case: we write each translated block back into its original box and shrink the font when needed, which works well for business documents and less well for magazine-style layouts. That is why every PDF also comes with an editable DOCX.
Which files can I translate?
Word (DOCX), Excel (XLSX), PowerPoint (PPTX), PDFs with selectable text, plain text, Markdown, CSV, SRT and VTT subtitles, JSON and YAML (values only, keys stay) and HTML. Files can be up to 50 MB, 300 pages or 100,000 words. Scanned PDFs and photos of documents are not supported yet; reading text from images is planned for a later release. Older .doc, .xls and .ppt files need to be saved in the newer format first.
How many languages?
60 languages at launch, including Spanish, French, German, Portuguese (Brazil and Portugal), Chinese (Simplified and Traditional), Japanese, Korean, Arabic, Hindi and most European languages. You can leave the source on Auto-detect. We add languages only after checking the translation quality ourselves.
What happens to my files?
Your upload is deleted as soon as the translation is finished. The translated file is kept for 7 days if you are signed in (so you can download it again from History) or 24 hours if you are not, then deleted automatically. You can press Delete now at any time. Your text is translated by a third-party AI provider. The provider may use submitted content to improve its models, and it is not covered by zero data retention, so please don't upload confidential documents, and remove personal details you don't need translated. Our logs and analytics never contain your document text.
Is it free?
You can translate 100 pages free without an account, and a free account adds 500 more pages. A page is up to 500 words of the original text, and the exact cost is shown before you confirm. Free accounts can translate up to 100 pages a day. Paid plans are coming soon; there is nothing to buy today, and failed jobs never use credits.
Do I need an account?
No. You can drop a file and translate up to 100 pages straight away. A free account (sign in with a link sent to your email, no password) gives you 500 extra pages, a History of your translations for 7 days, and batch upload of up to 10 files.
Can I use the translation for a visa, a court case or a university application?
Usually not on its own. DropTranslate is machine translation, and authorities often have their own rules about who must translate a document and how it is signed. Use it to understand what a document says or to prepare a draft, and check the receiving authority's instructions before you submit anything. See the note below.
How accurate is the translation?
Modern AI translation is good at everyday and business language, but it still makes mistakes, especially with names, numbers in sentences, specialist terms and very short or ambiguous text. For anything important, have someone who reads the target language check it.
What if my file is too big?
The limit is 50 MB, 300 pages or 100,000 words per file. Split long documents into parts (for example by chapter) and translate them one at a time. Free accounts can translate up to 100 pages a day.
What happens if the translation fails?
No credits are used for a failed job. You'll see what went wrong, for example a password-protected or scanned file, and can try again with a different version of the file.
Why is my file queued?
We share a daily capacity across all free users. When it is used up, your file waits in the queue and is translated after the daily reset at 00:00 UTC. You won't be charged twice, and signed-in users find the finished file in History.
