Don't upload confidential documents on the free tier. Why?

An EPUB is a packaged set of web pages, one or more per chapter, plus a table of contents and images. DropTranslate opens the package, translates the text in each chapter and puts the book back together, so it opens in the same e-reader apps with the same chapters and images. It is meant for your own manuscripts, public-domain books and documents you have the right to translate. Books with DRM copy protection can't be opened, and translating someone else's book for publication needs the rights holder's permission.

How it works

Drop the .epub

We count the words across all chapters and show the credit cost.

Pick the language

Choose the target language for the edition.

Download the .epub

Open it in your e-reader app and check the table of contents.

What changes, what stays

Translated

  • Chapter text, headings and table of contents entries

Kept as-is

  • Images, styles and chapter order
  • The book's file structure

Layout: High: structure kept

E-books reflow on every screen, so a longer translation simply makes more pages. Chapters, styles and images keep their structure.

  • DRM-protected books can't be opened.
  • Book metadata such as the title and author name in the package may need updating by hand.
  • Limits: 50 MB and 100,000 words per file; split longer books.

Tips

  • For a long book, check the credit cost first; it is counted per 500 words.
  • Have a native reader go through at least the first chapter to check tone and names.

Not a certified translation

Machine translation, not a certified or sworn translation. If your document goes to an authority, check what it requires first.

Questions

Can I translate any e-book?

Only DRM-free EPUB files, and only books you have the right to translate. Translating a copyrighted book for publication needs the rights holder's permission.

Will the table of contents still work?

Yes. The chapter structure is kept, and the table of contents entries are translated with it.

How are credits counted?

One credit per 500 words. A 60,000-word book costs 120 credits, shown before you confirm.
