Translate a research paper

Drop a paper as PDF or Word. Read it in your language, with the figures, tables and references where they were.

Don't upload confidential documents on the free tier. Why?

A lot of good research is published in only one language, and reading a 20-page paper through copy-and-paste is tiring. Drop the PDF and DropTranslate translates it section by section, writing the translation back onto the pages so figures, tables and equations stay next to the text that refers to them. You also get a DOCX copy that is easier to read and annotate. If you are translating your own paper or thesis, start from the Word or LaTeX-exported document rather than the journal PDF; you will get a cleaner file to revise.

Check your journal's and institution's rules

Journals, conferences and universities have their own policies on translated work and on AI tools. Check those before submitting a translated paper or thesis. If a translated thesis or degree document is part of an official recognition or admission process, the institution may require a certified translation by a qualified translator.

Good for

  • Reading papers, theses and reports published in a language you don't read fluently
  • Producing a first draft of your own paper in a second language for revision
  • Translating abstracts, posters and conference slides

Before you translate

  • Technical terms: check them against the established terms in your field in the target language.
  • Numbers, units and statistical results inside sentences: compare with the original.
  • Reference lists are best left in their original language; check they weren't altered.
  • If you submit a translated paper, have a subject expert who reads the target language review it.

Questions

Are equations and figures kept?

Figures and images stay in place. Equations that are drawn as images or formula objects are not translated. Equations typed as plain text in the PDF may be treated as text, so check them against the original.

Can I translate a 100-page thesis?

Yes, up to 300 pages or 100,000 words per file. The credit cost is shown before you confirm; split longer documents into chapters.

Is it accurate enough for publication?

It's a strong first draft, but not a finished translation. Specialist terminology and phrasing should be reviewed by someone who knows the field in the target language.
