Don't upload confidential documents on the free tier. Why?

Living abroad comes with letters you can't afford to ignore: a tax office notice, a residence appointment, a letter from your landlord, your bank or your child's school. If it came as a PDF or Word file, drop it here and read it in your language within minutes, with the layout kept so you can match each paragraph to the original. It is the fastest way to find out what the letter is about, whether there is a deadline and what you are asked to do. If the letter has legal or financial consequences, use the translation to prepare, then confirm with the sender or an adviser.

Understanding, not legal advice

A machine translation helps you understand a letter, but it is not legal advice and it doesn't replace the original. If you need to submit a translation of the letter somewhere, for example to a court or another authority, that authority may require a certified translation by a qualified translator. When a letter has a deadline or legal effect, confirm the details with the sender or a qualified adviser.

Certified, sworn or machine translation: which one do you need?

Good for

  • Finding out quickly what a letter is about and whether it needs action
  • Spotting deadlines, amounts and reference numbers
  • Preparing your questions before you call the sender or see an adviser

Before you translate

  • Compare dates, amounts and reference numbers with the original letter.
  • If there is a deadline, a fine or a legal consequence, contact the sender or an adviser to confirm.
  • Reply in the language the sender uses, and keep a copy of the original.
  • Paper letter? Scanning and photo support is coming; for now, you need a PDF with selectable text or a Word file.

Official letters often include personal details and reference numbers. On the free tier the text may be used to train the AI provider's models, so consider blacking out names, addresses and account numbers if you only need to understand the content.

Questions

Can I translate a paper letter?

Not yet directly. Scanned PDFs and photos are planned for a later release. For now you need a PDF with selectable text or a Word file, which is how many authorities send letters by email or in online portals.

Can I rely on the translation for a deadline?

Use it to find the deadline, then confirm it in the original letter. Dates and numbers are usually translated correctly, but always check them against the original.

Can I reply with this tool?

Yes. Write your reply in a Word document in your own language and translate it. Keep it simple and clear, and ask a native speaker to check anything important.
