Don't upload confidential documents on the free tier. Why?

Being handed a contract in a language you don't read well is stressful: a lease, an employment offer, a supplier agreement, terms from a partner abroad. DropTranslate translates the whole document while keeping its numbering, headings and clause structure, so you can follow it side by side with the original and see what each section is about. That is what it is for: understanding, preparing questions and spotting the clauses you need advice on. It is not a substitute for a lawyer or a professional legal translator when the wording actually matters.

For understanding, not for signing

A machine translation of a contract is for understanding only. It is not a certified or sworn translation and has no legal standing of its own. Rely on the language version the contract names as binding, and ask a qualified lawyer or a professional legal translator about anything that matters. If a court, notary or authority needs the contract in another language, it will usually say what kind of translation it requires, often a certified or sworn one.

Certified, sworn or machine translation: which one do you need?

Good for

  • Understanding a contract before a meeting or before you ask for advice
  • Finding the clauses about payment, notice periods, liability and termination quickly
  • Preparing a draft for a professional translator, who can then work faster

Before you translate

  • Read the translation next to the original. Legal terms often have no exact equivalent in another legal system.
  • Check every number, date, amount and party name against the original.
  • Look for a clause saying which language version is binding. That version is the one that counts.
  • Take your questions to a qualified lawyer before signing anything important.

Contracts are often confidential. On the free tier the text may be used to train the AI provider's models and is not covered by zero data retention, so don't upload confidential contracts. Remove names, amounts and identifying details first, or translate only the clauses you need.

Questions

Is the translation legally valid?

No. It's a machine translation to help you understand the document. The legally relevant text is the version the contract itself names as binding, and anything you rely on should be checked by a qualified professional.

Will clause numbering stay the same?

Yes. In Word files the numbering and headings stay as they are; only the words change. PDFs keep their layout as closely as possible and also come with a DOCX copy.

Can I upload a confidential contract?

Please don't on the free tier. The AI provider may use the text to train its models. Remove confidential details first or translate only the parts you need to understand.
